As the New York Jets continue to try and zero in on their next general manager, they have begun the process of scheduling interviews for potential candidates.

According to Albert Breer of SI.com (via Pro Football Talk), the Jets have secured an interview with Seattle Seahawks co-director of player personnel Scott Fitterer.

Fitterer is set to interview with the team on Thursday and Friday of this week, and will be bringing nearly 20 years of NFL experience to the interview.

Fitterer has been with the Seahawks since 2001, and has interviewed with other teams in the past about potential general manager openings, but has never left the Seahawks.

While Fitterer’s interview will just be the first, he likely won’t be the only person the Jets look at to fill their general manager void. According to reports from earlier this week, the Jets have also been hoping to get in contact with more candidates, and it seems they are.

According to the report on Fitterer, the Jets have also planned a meeting with Bears assistant director of player personnel Champ Kelly, and are still hoping to talk with Eagles vice president of player personnel Joe Douglas, who many believe to be the frontrunner for the job.

The major caveat in the Jets search for a general manager is how much power the team is willing to relinquish. Throughout their search, many reports have come out stating that candidates would only take the position of general manager if they had final say on players and other matters on the team, and it’s still unknown if that demand will be met.

With head coach Adam Gase currently assuming the role of general manager by making some moves, it’ll be crucial for Gase and the future general manager to see eye-to-eye.

While it’s clear that he and Mike Maccagnan didn’t, the Jets could really go a long way to building a more stable culture around the team if they land on a good hire, which makes the interview processes even more important.
