As the New York Jets try to fill their vacant general manager position, it seems potential candidates are all holding out in an effort to land longer deals.

Speaking to a league source, ESPN’s Josina Anderson noted that no candidate looking at the Jets' general manager job wants the position without a long-term deal. According to Anderson, the staff in place with the Jets isn't equipped to handle personnel matters, and those in the know are beginning to wonder how much power the eventual GM will have.

As far as the concerns about power go, that’s likely in response to Jets head coach Adam Gase, who seems to have, at the very least, a significant amount of power. Since Mike Maccagnan was fired, Gase has made a handful of moves that are normally reserved for the GM, so it remains to be seen what type of power a new hire would have.

While the Jets continue to search for a new general manager, the team will also begin its offseason program, hoping that the dysfunction of the front office doesn’t flow into the team itself.

For a team that hasn’t made the playoffs in nearly a decade, the Jets will surely look for the stability that comes with having a cohesive front office, but even if they can’t find that, the influx of talent from free agency and the draft could make the Jets a team that could compete for a potential wild card spot.
