Le’Veon Bell of the New York Jets posted a video on Twitter on Wednesday that showcases a new workout for the Jets running back, which features boxing:

As you can see, Bell is clearly working on his reaction times and ability to read minute movements in defenders. This will hopefully allow him to remain elusive and quick-witted on the field in his second season with the Jets.

After missing all of the 2018 NFL season due to a contract dispute with his former team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Bell signed with the Jets on a four-year, $52 million contract in March 2019.

In his first season with New York, he did not quite match the All-Pro level he reached in the 2017 season, when he led the entire NFL in total touches with 406, and his 1946 all-purpose yards and yards from scrimmage were both second overall in the NFL behind only Todd Gurley and ahead of notable players such as Alvin Kamara, his-then teammate Antonio Brown and LeSean McCoy.

Le'Veon Bell was a machine that season in Pittsburgh, and it also marked his third and final season leading the team in Approximate Value with 15. His best season with the team likely came in 2014, when he produced a whopping 2215 yards from scrimmage and all-purpose yards, but again came in second in the league – this time to DeMarco Murray of the Dallas Cowboys.

Bell’s Approximate Value in his first season in New York dipped all the way to 5, and his yards from scrimmage of 1250 were his lowest since an injury-shortened 2015 campaign.

Perhaps his new boxing workout will help the six-year veteran return to the stratospheric heights earlier in his career.
