The embattled New York Jets organization and its front office continue to put their trust in third-year quarterback Sam Darnold amidst the team's struggles in the early stages of their 2020 campaign.
With the trade deadline looming on the horizon, they are rumored to have blocked off Darnold in trade talks but will be listening to offers for their other notable players including sophomore defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.
Article Continues Below“The Jets have been open for business over the past few weeks, but don't expect that to include QB Sam Darnold. At least, not this year. The organization may face a decision on Darnold this offseason depending on where it drafts, but source says he won't be traded during the season. And though more than a few teams have called inquiring about DT Quinnen Williams, source said it will take much more than the rumored second-round pick for Gang Green to part with him. GM Joe Douglas will consider anything, but for a player as highly regarded as Williams, it's more of a question of, “How many second-rounders.”
While Darnold is presumptively safe from any trade rumors swirling around the organization as of the moment, he will most likely find himself in a peculiar situation come the 2021 NFL Draft. Many talking heads have already expressed their desire for Gang Green to select Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence in order to turn the franchise's fate around.
Head coach Adam Gase even attempted to lean on veteran Joe Flacco in their most recent matchup against the Miami Dolphins but the team got worse and failed to score a single point throughout the entire game.
With a 0-6 record, the Jets became the NFL's only winless team in 2020 and continued on their worst start since the 1996 season. With their struggles not looking to end anytime soon, Jets general manager Joe Douglas will have to get creative on finding out ways to make his team better and salvage another campaign from going down the drain.
