Trevor Lawrence is the biggest star in college football today, and it seems as though NFL executives can’t get over the freshman Clemson Tigers quarterback, who just led his team to a win in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game on Monday.
According to Jordan Schultz of ESPN, at least two NFL figures believe that Lawrence is good enough to be drafted first overall in this year’s draft, provided, of course, that he throws his hat into that ring.
Article Continues BelowI asked two NFL executives if Trevor Lawrence would be the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft, should he have had the option to declare? One said yes and the other said maybe. Lawrence is a very special talent.
Lawrence, however, is not eligible to join the 2019 NFL Draft nor the one next year. He’ll have to wait until his junior season ends in 2021 before having the power to decide whether he wants to turn pro or stay for one more season at Clemson.
Nevertheless, Trevor Lawrence has certainly turned plenty of heads with his play in his first year as Clemson’s starting quarterback. He was not the Tigers’ original signal-caller in his freshman year. That would be Kelly Bryant, but Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney switched things up under center and converted Lawrence into a starter in September.
All Lawrence did since was to collect an 11-0 record as a starter and lead the Tigers to a dominant 44-16 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide in the national title game.
