The Washington Redskins have found their groove, and a lot has to do with the play of Kirk Cousins.

The veteran quarterback has been playing at perhaps the highest level of his career the last few weeks, and he shined especially bright last night. Against an injury-riddled Packers secondary, Cousins threw for 375 yards and three touchdowns. In the second half, he repeatedly hit receivers right on the money on deep balls, even while throwing into the wind.

In the end, Washington ran away with a 42-24 win, pushing their record to 6-3-1. They're currently in the NFC's sixth playoff spot.

Cousins speaks his mind

We've seen emotional postgame outbursts from Cousins in the past, most notably the “You like that!” comment last season. Last night's was easily his most bold, though.

After shaking hands with some of the Packers, Cousins approached Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan, who notably didn't give Kirk the extension he demanded in the offseason. Instead, Cousins was given one-more prove it year, receiving the team's $20 million franchise tag.

After last night's victory, I'm confident that McCloughan does indeed like Cousins.

This morning, Kirk addressed the soundbite. From Chris Lingebach of CBS DC:

“I mean, first of all, you’ve got to realize that, in a perfect world, that doesn’t get caught on camera and it’s just between me and him in a back room somewhere, but for whatever reason it was on the field,” Cousins told Grant Paulsen and Danny Rouhier Monday morning on 106.7 The Fan’s Under Center…

“And yeah, it’s just organic, it’s natural out of emotion coming off a big win,” he said. “That’s what comes out, just like ‘You like that,’ or any of the other stuff that’s been put out there.”

“I, again, can’t say enough good things about Scot,” Cousins said. “I think he’s done a phenomenal job. I mean Scot was the reason I even had an opportunity to play last season, so I owe Scot a great deal and he’s done a really good job of evaluating talent from the day he was brought in.
