Former Alabama Crimson Tide safety and current 2019 NFL Draft prospect Deionte Thompson is unlikely to suit up at this year's NFL Scouting Combine, according to a weekend report from Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Thompson, who is considered to be one of the top safety prospects in the 2019 NFL Draft pool, recently underwent wrist surgery in order to repair a torn ligament.

With the procedure being completed on Friday morning, Thompson isn't expected to participate in drills at next week's NFL Scouting Combine for obvious reasons. However, Thompson's draft stock will likely remain unchanged going forward as the up-and-coming defensive back is not expected to encounter any long-term issues in regards to his injury wrist.

“Deionte Thompson is a bit of a roller coaster ride as a single high free safety,” reads Thompson's 2019 NFL Draft player profile on The Draft Network. “Thompson has adequate range and long speed, but he’s always looking to jump action in front of his face. That yields big plays…for both the defense and the opposition. Thompson would be an effective single high defender with more focus on trusting his keys and being more willing to clean up the mess instead of trying to jump the football at such a high rate. Ceiling is a Pro Bowl player.”

Thompson was notably tabbed as a consensus All-American in what would ultimately become his final go-round at Alabama in 2018-19. In all, the soon-to-be NFL defender spent three seasons in Tuscaloosa under the direction of famed head coach Nick Saban.
