There had been plenty of speculation regarding the prospect of soccer star Carli Lloyd becoming the first woman to play in the NFL last offseason. It appears she has not given up on this dream.

Lloyd admits that while soccer is still her top priority, becoming an NFL kicker is still on the list, via Frank Schwab of Yahoo Sports:

“First and foremost I’m focusing on soccer at the moment, but I’ve always been a kid who loves a challenge,” Lloyd said, via Yahoo Sports. “I’ve never backed down from any challenge. I know with proper training and the right technique and someone showing me how to properly kick, I know I could do it. It may have to get pushed a year or two, we’ll see. I know the times right now are a little up in the air, so we’ll see. I’m not ruling it out. You never know.”

Lloyd's skill set certainly translates well to the gridiron. She first made headlines when she visited the Houston Texans training camp back in 2015 and showed off her incredible kicking prowess in a competition with defensive tackle Vince Wilfork.

Lloyd then kicked things up a notch last offseason by hitting a 55-yard field goal during a joint practice between the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens that went viral. She soon made it official that she would seriously be considering offers.

Unfortunately, the restrictions of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) has limited her opportunities to make it come to fruition this time around. While the 37-year-old is still gunning for the 2021 Olympics, her NFL window will continue to close with each year.
