Former NFL Pro Bowl wide receiver Vincent Jackson was found dead in his hotel room on February 15, 2021. The 38-year-old Jackson had been struggling with alcohol addiction issues for years and unfortunately, it finally caught up to him. More than nine months after Jackson was pronounced deceased, his family, the NFL, and his fans all got the answers they were asking for.

The official cause of Jackson's death was ruled by the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's report as “chronic alcohol use,” according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times on Twitter. The final findings said Vincent had alcoholic cardiomyopathy, a condition caused by long-term alcohol use that weakens the heart.

Before that, though, there was the announcement that Jackson had stage two Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE,) the same disease that led another former NFL player, Philip Adams to a massacre/suicide last year and has taken the lives of many NFL players through its degenerative ways. Perhaps CTE and alcohol abuse played hand-in-hand with each other as one of the things that CTE does to the brain is that it makes you take more risks.

Stroud also went in-depth about exactly how inebriated Jackson was at the time of his untimely demise, saying:

“At the time of his death, Vincent Jackson's blood alcohol concentration was roughly four times that of what the state of Florida considers impairment. Three measurements were taken ranging from .28 to .32 and recorded in a toxicology report released Wednesday.”
