On Monday, it was revealed that the Los Angeles Chargers will be moving on from Philip Rivers, ending a 14-year run with Rivers as the team's starting quarterback.

Now, Rivers will be a free agent, meaning he will be wearing a different uniform for the first time in what will be a 17-year career entering 2020.

But Rivers isn't looking too far into the future. As a matter of fact, the veteran only wants to play a couple of more years:

“I can say for certain that if I’m playing, it’s a two-year maximum,” Philip Rivers said, according to Sam Farmer of The Los Angeles Times. “Whoever the suitors are, I think that would be their hope as well. Because you never know how it goes. Shoot, if we stink it up after one year, I’m probably done. If we play really good, they’ll probably want to go again.”

The 38-year-old added that it's not just about winning a Super Bowl:

“Certainly you want a chance to win a championship, but it’s not just about that,” said Philip Rivers. “If you told me right now, ‘You’re going to play for two years, and you’re going to be good. But y’all will not win a Super Bowl. Will you still play?’ Heck yeah, I’ll still play.”

Philip Rivers is coming off of one of his worst seasons in quite some time, as he threw for 4.615 yards, 23 touchdowns and 20 interceptions while completing 66 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 88.5.

While the yardage totals were there, Rivers was far too prone to turnovers in 2019, which was a significant reason why the Chargers went just 5-11 in spite of Super Bowl expectations.
