The NFL has begun talks on a new CBA agreement but those talks are far from finished. Although, Roger Goodell's recent comments may suggest there is some optimism for the deal to get done soon.

Recently, Goodell spoke during an interview with Julia Boorstin of CNBC and said he wants a new CBA by the start of the regular season. Both the NFL and NFLPA are in the midst of talks but there hasn't been an agreement just yet.

Here's Goodell's exact quote when asked about the timetable of the CBA:

“That’s certainly our intent,” Goodell said during an interview with Julia Boorstin of CNBC. “Our intent is to make sure we have a Collective Bargaining Agreement, we’ve been in it for eight years. It’s worked very well, mainly for our fans but also for our players and our clubs, and so we have the structure of a system that works quite well.

“We’re continuing that dialogue, there are obviously changes we all want on both sides, and I think those are things that’ll improve us and try to make the Collective Bargaining [Agreement] continue to be successful for all the parties, and I hope we’ll do that.”

As for the NFLPA, they want to have an agreement in place that is better for them than the current CBA. In the current CBA, players have shown their disappointment in how much power Goodell is given.

A deal can tentatively be reached but it is going to be tough for the NFL to lock in a new CBA agreement by the start of the regular season on September 5th. Nonetheless, Goodell has his sights on getting a new CBA done by the start of the 2019 regular season.
