The 2022 NFL Hall of Fame class should be a great one as a plethora of historic players are eligible to join the prestigious honors. We'll see how makes their way into the Hall next year, but it seems we have some newcomers in the list of eligible candidates, including Steve Smith Sr. and Andre Johnson.

According to Ari Meirov, the NFL “Hall of Fame reveals 26 modern-era semifinalists for Class of 2022,” and there are seven new eligible players within the list. In addition to Smith Sr. and Johnson, the other new names include DeMarcus Ware, Robert Mathis, Anquan Boldin, Devin Hester, and Vince Wilfork.

It'll be interesting to see if any of these seven become first-ballot Hall of Famers. It's a rare occasion and only the best of the best are capable of entering the NFL's highest honors immediately. One that could be a surprise first ballot is Devin Hester, who could be in the Hall of Fame due to his uncanny ability to return kicks and punts.

Additionally, we have some big-name defensive players looking to join the NFL Hall of Fame as well. DeMarcus Ware and Robert Mathis were monsters at attacking the quarterback and deserve a spot in the Hall. On top of that, Vince Wilfork is arguably one of the best defensive tackles to play the game, as he dominated throughout his entire career.

We'll see who winds up in the Hall of Fame, as there are a ton of other worthy candidates on the list. Eddie George, Jared Allen, Tory Holt, and Patrick Willis are just a few names who deserve to be recognized as some of the NFL's best.
