There seems to be no stopping Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence from entering the 2021 NFL Draft regardless of the fate that awaits him in the big leagues. Multiple NFL executives addressed the issue with ESPN this past week after Lawrence left open the possibility he could return to Clemson next season.

Via Adam Schefter of ESPN:

“I'd be shocked if he went back [to Clemson],” one source told ESPN.

“You have a better chance of winning the Boston Marathon than he does of going back to school,” another source said.

“Any person in that stratosphere would go, and history tells me he goes out,” a third source claimed.

The highly-touted prospect recently stirred the pot when he said he hasn't ruled out returning to Clemson for his senior year instead of going pro. However, his own coach in Dabo Swinney has also stated that he would be surprised if the 21-year-old returns to play in the amateur ranks next season.

According to Schefter, Lawrence already took the next steps to prepare for his NFL career. He began interviewing potential agents for his NFL career back in March, as per his sources, and has been interviewing marketing agents.

The Tennessee native remains to be a front-runner for the Heisman Trophy race this season. His Clemson Tigers are currently holding an immaculate 7-0 record to sit atop the Atlantic Coast Conference.

He recently encountered a hurdle when he tested positive for the COVID-19 and was ruled out of their most recent game against the Boston College Eagles. He will remain out in their upcoming matchup against No.4-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish on November 7.

Despite the statements made by talking heads, only Lawrence can truly know the plans that he has mapped out for himself in the future. The remainder of the college football season will determine whether or not Lawrence will still play out his senior year or indeed make his long-awaited jump to the NFL.
