Former NFL quarterback and FOX Sports commentator Troy Aikman recently stirred the pot and got himself in hot water when he made controversial statements regarding the league's decision to continue with fly-overs with military fighter jets prior to kickoff.
His conversation with fellow commentator Joe Buck was picked up by a Defector reader ahead of the Week 6 matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
JOE BUCK: Welcome to Big Noon Saturday!
TROY AIKMAN: That’s a lot of jet fuel just to do a little flyover.
BUCK: That’s your hard-earned money and your tax dollars at work!
AIKMAN: That stuff ain’t happening with [a] Kamala-Biden ticket. I’ll tell you that right now, partner.
The three-time Super Bowl champion then responded to the criticism sent to his way for his controversial statements made via Twitter:
I love a flyover but It was odd to see one over a mostly empty stadium but I am an unwavering patriot that loves this country, has always respected our flag, supported the men and women in the armed forces as well as those in uniform who serve & protect and for anyone to suggest

Perhaps Troy Aikman was only concerned for the financial costs that fly-overs will incur for the league who is already attempting to recuperate from the losses caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
On the field, it was a one-sided domination imposed by the Buccaneers over the previously undefeated Packers. The Bucs' defensive line brought their A-game and limited the visiting team without a single point scored after the first quarter.
The Bucs offense also went to work with quarterback Tom Brady leading the way with 166 passing yards on a 17/27 passing clip along with two passing touchdowns. Tight end Rob Gronkowski finally broke out in his best game as a Buc thus far with 78 receiving yards on five receptions with a scored touchdown.
Running back Ronald Jones was also a major contributor who took most of the snaps in lieu of fellow ball-carrier Leonard Fournette's continued absence on the field. He finished with 113 rushing yards on 23 carries with two rushing touchdowns for the Buccaneers.
With Aikman's recent comments, the league could possibly consider discontinuing the fly-over ritual altogether especially with little fans in attendance this season.
