On Friday morning, the Indianapolis Colts signed former All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore to a two-year contract that is reportedly worth up to $23 million. $14 million of that money is guaranteed, which is pretty amazing for a cornerback coming off injury-plagued seasons. Well, the cornerback that is regarded as maybe the best in the NFL shared his feelings on the signing on Twitter.

Los Angeles Rams All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey simply tweeted: “SMH (shake my head).” He was pretty vague but has been quite vocal the last couple of years on social media regarding other players' contracts and awards.

It certainly appears as though Ramsey is of the belief that Gilmore is not deserving of such a lucrative contract.

If someone was just looking at what Gilmore has done the last two seasons, that sentiment would be understandable. The newest Colts defensive back missed half of last season due to injury, and also missed a number of games the year before. However, he is a five-time Pro Bowl corner who has received All-Pro honors twice during his career.

The Colts, like much of the AFC this offseason, has been loading up. Indianapolis made a big move by shipping quarterback Carson Wentz to Washington and later signed former NFL MVP Matt Ryan.

Indianapolis already boasted one of the best rushing attacks in football, led by Jonathan Taylor. Their defense was good but not great, and at times was exposed in the secondary. Gilmore should help shore up that issue. The only glaring need for this team now is at wide receiver.

Michael Pittman Jr. broke out in 2021 and appears to be a very good possession receiver, but the Colts lack someone that can stretch the field. Expect Indianapolis to aggressively pursue this in the NFL Draft later this month.
