The Washington Redskins suffered a critical blow with running back Derrius Guice out for the 2018 NFL season with a torn ACL. Fortunately, they were quickly able to add some depth by signing running back Adrian Peterson to a one-year deal.

It appears Peterson will don a new look for his start in Washington. According to Rich Tandler of NBC Sports, he will wear No. 26 this season:

This will be Peterson's third team in two seasons. However, it is the second time that he has switched numbers. His No. 28 with the Minnesota Vikings became a best-seller for the better part of a decade. He tried to keep the mojo working following his release from the Vikings in his new venture with the New Orleans Saints. Unfortunately, things quickly turned sour, and he was soon traded to the Arizona Cardinals. It was there that Peterson decided to switch things up by wearing No. 23 to finish out the year. He enjoyed plenty of immediate success before fizzling out towards the final stretch of the season.

Fans in Washington may get a sense of nostalgia seeing Peterson in his new digs. Former two-time Pro Bowl running back Clinton Portis wore No. 26 during his time with the team. While there has been some speculation regarding his chances of staying on the team, Peterson has made it clear that he intends to secure an integral role in this offense. He will certainly have his work cut out for him considering how Washington still boasts tremendous depth in the backfield.
