The Washington Redskins made quite the transition under center this offseason with the acquisition of quarterback Alex Smith. It has become evident early on in training camp that he has already found his new favorite target.
Reports out of camp say Smith and wide receiver Jamison Crowder have built a solid rapport thus far. According to Jake King-Schreifels of the team's official website, that still seems to be the case:
It is encouraging to see Smith has already seemed to find his safety net on the new team. The fact that it is Crowder should come as no surprise.
The former fourth-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft has put up some solid numbers over the past three seasons. He finished the 2017 campaign with 66 catches for 789 yards and three touchdowns. Although his production may have dwindled a bit last season, it is clear that Crowder has made an impression on Smith early on. Washington will need such chemistry if they are to bounce back from their injury-riddled 2017 season.
While his rapport with Crowder is undoubtedly promising, Smith is known for his ability to spread the wealth in the passing game. He will certainly have other options beginning with wide receiver Josh Doctson. Despite the slow start to his career, Doctson emerged as a bonafide deep threat in the offense. Although Smith is not usually known for his arm strength, it will be interesting to see how he distributes his targets in the 2018 NFL season.
