With only one preseason game left, Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden followed through on his plans to name a starting quarterback. It seems quarterback Case Keenum is just ready to get down to business.
Gruden made the official announcement heading into the practice week. According to ESPN’s John Keim, Keenum is focused on performing at a high level:
“It’s business as usual. We’ve got a big test coming up…my mindset doesn’t change.”
The decision to roll with Keenum hardly comes as any surprise. Quarterback Colt McCoy has spent training camp and the preseason dealing with injury and was never able to make his case. Although Washington managed to secure their future franchise quarterback in Dwayne Haskins with the 15th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, they have indicated that they would like to take a patient approach with his development.

Keenum finds himself in familiar territory at this point in his career. This will be the fourth team he has started for in as many years. His last stint leading the Denver Broncos hardly went according to plan.
He will be looking to make sure things go much smoother this time around or otherwise risk Gruden having to explore other options this season.
