The Washington Redskins new star rookie officially has a new number. Due to a difference between NCAA and NFL jersey number rules, former Ohio State star and 2020 second overall pick Chase Young will have to switch from the No.2 jersey he wore for the Buckeyes.

Now, Young will don No. 99 for Washington. He wore No. 9 in high school and No. 2 in college, so his new number might be a call back to those numbers.

The Redskins announced Young's new jersey number in an Instagram post on Wednesday along with fellow rookies Antonio Gibson (No.24), Saahdiq Charles (No.77), Antonio Gandy-Golden (No.10), Keith Ismael (No.60), Khaleke Hudson (No.47), Kamren Curl (No.31) and James Smith-Williams (No.72).

Chase Young is one of the most hyped-up defensive end prospects in recent memory. As a Junior at Ohio State, the 6-foot-5, 265-pound defensive end recorded 46 tackles, 21 tackles for a loss, 16.5 sacks and seven passes defended in only 12 games.

Last season, third-year pro Caleb Brantley wore No. 99 for Washington. While Brantley is still listed with that number on the Redskins' official website, the 25-year-old defensive tackle will likely be suiting up with a new number in 2020 seeing as he only appeared in one game last campaign.

As for Young, the rookie phenom will be joining a young Redskins front seven filled with tantalizing potential. Players like Matthew Ioannidis, Montez Sweat, Jonathan Allen and Da'Ron Payne are all 25 or younger and should create a solid young defensive core for Washington going forward.
