Following reports of being inactive against the Detroit Lions, the Washington Redskins will activate Josh Norman for the Week 12 tilt, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. In turn, cornerback Aaron Colvin will be inactive.

Prior reports indicated that Norman would not play due to performance. The well-paid cornerback was benched in Week 11's loss to the New York Jets. Days later, Redskins defensive coordinator Greg Manusky gave interesting comments in response to why Norman isn’t making plays in 2019. Via John Keim of ESPN:

“We put him in situations to make plays and we’re just not making them.”

It appears as if Washington will give Norman a chance to redeem himself.

The 31-year-old cornerback has regressed to a liability in coverage for Washington. According to Pro Football Reference, he is allowing a 127 passer rating in coverage to go alongside 422 yards and six touchdowns on a 67.4% completion rate. He also has six pass deflections and an interception.

Heading into the trade deadline, rumors swirled of Washington parting ways with Norman. However, after failing to find a trade partner, they retained their star cornerback. His pricey contract alongside subpar play likely played a part in their inability to ship him off.

Norman carries the highest cap hit for any player for the Redskins at $14.3 million, per Over The Cap. If they decide to part ways with him in the offseason, they would save $12.5 million while taking a $3 million dead cap hit.

Remaining on Washington’s corner depth chart is Quinton Dunbar, Fabian Moreau, Jimmy Moreland and Simeon Thomas.
