The Washington Redskins opted to bring back running back Adrian Peterson seemed like a huge win for veteran ball-carriers around the league. For head coach Ron Rivera, the decision was a no-brainer.

Despite all the major changes Washington made to the roster this offseason, they went head and exercised their team option to keep Peterson round for the 2020 NFL season. Rivera likes what he brings to the table both on and off the field, via Rhiannon Walker of The Athletic:

Beyond what Adrian Peterson does on the field, Ron Rivera said that his value off the field and as a person is one of the reason the team picked up his option.

Rivera's comments are certainly telling of the impact Peterson has had in Washington. He wasted no time parting ways with cornerback Josh Norman and wide receiver Paul Richardson this offseason. It is safe to say that he has made quite the impression on the organization since his arrival.

Peterson initially served as a complementary piece of this crowded backfield in Washington heading into the 2018 campaign. However, one severe injury after another ultimately thrust him into a workhorse role on early downs and he has thrived in his elevated role by rushing for 1,940 yards and 12 touchdowns over the past two seasons.

Peterson's presence has served as a stabilizing factor in the for this injury-riddled group. Meanwhile, his experience and leadership has also helped pay huge dividends for some of the younger players on the roster. As a result, he will have another year to show that he still has plenty left in the tank.
