The Carolina Panthers have activated Greg Olsen from injured reserve as the veteran tight end is set to make his return against the New York Jets in Week 12, per Pro Football Talk’s Josh Alper.

Olsen missed the last eight games after breaking his foot in the Panthers’ Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills and landing on IR. That injury saw his incredible streak of consecutive games played snapped at 160.

The Panthers have fared well enough without Olsen, as evidenced by their 7-3 record. Devin Funchess has emerged as a capable No. 1 receiver this season and currently leads the team with 535 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Christian McCaffrey has turned into the dynamic pass-catching threat the Panthers envisioned he’d be. The rookie running back is leading the team in with 57 receptions. Veteran tight end Ed Dickson has also had a solid season filling in for Olsen with 25 catches for 382 yards.

Olsen’s return comes at an opportune time for the Panthers, who placed rookie receiver Curtis Samuel on IR following a season-ending ankle injury he suffered in Week 10 against the Miami Dolphins. After the Jets, the Panthers face tough games in back-to-back weeks at the division-leading New Orleans Saints and at home against the 9-2 Minnesota Vikings.
