With fellow signal caller Nick Foles officially out of the picture in the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is now free to take over at the helm for good. However, Wentz has been unable to avoid injury over the course of the last two seasons, which allowed Foles to remain in the fold at pivotal points of each season — the first of which ended in a Super Bowl title for the Eagles.

Nonetheless, it seems as though Wentz will be ready to roll come mid-April when the team's offseason workouts get underway.

“Sources close to the quarterback said that he is expected to be healthy by the start of workouts in mid-April,” writes Jeff McClane of Philly.com.

On the other hand, Wentz does not appear to be a candidate for a contract extension despite the fact that he is now eligible to receive one.

“A contract extension for Carson Wentz, even though he’s available for one, is increasingly unlikely this offseason,” McClane adds. “Both the Eagles and the 26-year-old quarterback would have incentive for waiting a year. The team needs to see how Wentz recovers from the stress fracture in his back and whether he can finish a season for the first time in three years. He would conceivably want to increase his value, especially compared with classmate Jared Goff.”

The Eagles have been to the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, though Wentz has yet to appear in a postseason game for the NFC East franchise.
