The Philadelphia Eagles have faltered a bit out of the gate thus far in the 2018 NFL season. However, quarterback Carson Wentz is looking to change that starting Week 3 versus the Indianapolis Colts.
The Eagles finally announced Wentz's return from a devastating knee injury. According to ESPN's Tim McManus, he expects to get off to a fast start in his season debut:
There is good reason for Wentz to have such high expectations. He was playing at an MVP-caliber level last season before the injury. It is safe to assume that it was difficult for him to sit back and watch his team win a Super Bowl with backup quarterback Nick Foles.
However, Philadelphia looks as though it may be suffering from a bit of a championship hangover. This is hardly indicative of a team that prides itself on being the reigning Super Bowl champs. Although the Eagles may have seen some improvement from Foles in Week 2, it was not enough to secure the win. As a result, they wasted no time in announcing Wentz's return this week.
Unfortunately, Wentz will not be making his season debut under the best of circumstances. Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery is still recovering from a torn rotator cuff and his status has yet to be determined. Meanwhile, running back Jay Ajayi is still listed as day-to-day with a back injury.
That said, the Eagles may have to rely on Wentz a bit more than they would like to in his first game back.
