Carson Wentz is likely going to be watching from the sideline for the Philadelphia Eagles for the rest of the season and he could force his way out if that remains the same next season. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Wentz wants out of Philadelphia if Jalen Hurts remains the starter for the future.
Due to his ongoing struggles, the Eagles decided to go with Hurts last week against the New Orleans Saints. The rookie quarterback would inject a spark into the offense as Philadelphia would upset New Orleans, who had the best record in the NFC at the time.
After Hurts impressed in his first career start, Doug Pederson elected to name him the starter again in Week 15. However, while Wentz seemed to accept the decision on the sideline in Week 14, he could grow uneasy about his situation moving forward.
Despite naming Hurts the starter in recent weeks, the Eagles still believe Wentz can be their starter in the future. Though, a large reason why Philadelphia may be married to the idea of keeping Wentz is due to his expensive contract.
Wentz is set to make $128 million over the next four years and he possesses nearly $60 million in dead cap if he's released or traded before June. The dead-cap hit that the Eagles would accrue would be lower if he were to be traded or released after June 1.
At the same time, Schefter points out that the Eagles would need to make a move with Wentz before the third day of the league year or his base salary will be guaranteed for next season.
Regardless of how this season finishes, Philadelphia seems to be in a tricky situation with Wentz.
