Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Chris Long is no stranger to charity. As a two-time Super Bowl champion, he is no stranger to the concept of hard work either. He’ll have to put in some hard word to accomplish his next charitable task.
Why? Because he'll be climbing the highest mountain in Africa: Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Long's foundation made the announcement in a press release. Dubbed “Conquering Kili,” the climb is being hosted by his the Chris Long Foundation for the third year in a row. The purpose is to raise awareness of the prevalence of water scarcity and money to build wells in Tanzania.

Long has been joined by other athletes each time, and this year is no different. Members of the group going with him are former Seattle Seahawks long snapper and Green Beret Nate Boyer, former Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young, MMA fighter Justin Wren, Los Angeles Rams linebacker Connor Barwin, former Rams running back Steven Jackson, former Indianapolis Colts tight end Tom Santi.
“‘Conquering Kili' has established itself as a program that goes beyond football and the battlefield to allow Nate and my respective peers to come together in a team environment and continue our commitment to service,” Long said via CBSSports.com writer Cody Benjamin.
“I couldn't be more excited about the group we have this year; the entire team is energized and ready to reach the summit and make a real difference for the people of Tanzania.”
Long came up with the idea back in 2013 while traveling in Tanzania. He made the first climb in 2015.
