Since the Philadelphia Eagles captured their first Super Bowl win last month, there has been the lingering chatter surrounding the future of Nick Foles. There had been the notion that the Eagles would be willing to part ways with the Super Bowl MVP if a feasible offer was made to them.
However, there has yet to be any real discussion about the front office moving on from Foles at any point in the first several weeks of the offseason. According to Edward Lewis of NFL.com, head coach Doug Pederson stated during a recent interview with Steve Wyche at the NFL Annual Meeting in Orlando on Saturday that there haven't been any significant offers made by any team.
“We did not,” Pederson said when asked if the team got any interesting trade offers for Foles. “Nothing too crazy. It had to be the right deal for us to do that. But there wasn't anything coming down our way for Nick.”
The Eagles may not have had any major offers thrown their way given that teams may likely first fixated on pursuing players in free agency and possibly acquire young talent at the position through the draft. There are still several teams in need of quarterback help in the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills, and Arizona Cardinals.
However, each of these teams looks to be positioning themselves for the draft to scoop up the likes of USC's Sam Darnold, UCLA's Josh Rosen, Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield, and Wyoming's Josh Allen. If any of these teams were to miss out, they could visit a possible trade to acquire Foles at some point after the draft.
Meanwhile, the Eagles seem perfectly fine with the idea of keeping Foles, who is in the second year of his two-year, $11 million as there is no certainty at this point that Carson Wentz will be ready by the start of the 2018 campaign. If not, Foles is a more than capable backup plan as he proved that in the playoffs helping lead the team to a Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots.
