Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins has been absent at the team's voluntary workouts for unspecified reasons, according to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Oddly enough, Jenkins has actually been in Philadelphia, but he has been spending his time working out at other facilities.
Obviously, that begs the question as to whether or not Jenkins is satisfied with his contract status.
Jenkins has two years remaining on his deal and is scheduled to make $8.1 million this coming season and $7.6 million in 2020 as part of the four-year, $35 million pact he signed with the Eagles three years ago.
The 31-year-old is currently the 10th highest-paid safety in the league, so you have to wonder if Jenkins feels he deserves more. Of course, the fact that the market for safeties has grown exponentially only further complicates things for Philadelphia, as Landon Collins landed $84 million ($14 million annually) from the Washington Redskins and Tyrann Mathieu received $42 million (also $14 million annually) from the Kansas City Chiefs.
Jenkins is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played all 16 games and finished with 97 tackles, a sack, an interception, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and eight passes defended en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.
The East Orange, N.J. native, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was originally selected by the New Orleans Saints in the first round (14th pick overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft.
He spent the first five years of his career with the Saints before joining the Eagles in 2014. He has made four Pro Bowl appearances in Philadelphia.
