Just a day after Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson refused to name the starting quarterback for Week 1, the Eagles Twitter account has confirmed that Nick Foles will be starting against the Atlanta Falcons.

Philadelphia media had reported that Foles would be the starting quarterback earlier last week and Pederson made his thoughts known on Saturday about the media making that report.

“First of all, I appreciate y'all putting words in my mouth this week,” Pederson told reporters via Bleacher Report. “And therefore, I'm not going to discuss it.”

It was assumed that Foles would start because Carson Wentz still hasn't been fully cleared but Pederson said it gave the team a competitive advantage to keep it under wraps about who would be starting.

“We're trying to win a football game,” Pederson said. “I don't want to put my game plan out there for everybody to see it and read it and teams can scheme. It just doesn't make a lot of sense.”

The sense around the league is that Foles won't need to make many starts this year, but in week one he is going to need to play better than he has in the preseason. He hasn't looked like the same guy that led the Eagles to the Super Bowl last year.

Once Wentz is healthy, there is not going to be a quarterback controversy, this is his team, and the Eagles hope this year he will be the one to lead them to back to back Super Bowl victories.
