Following their spectacular 2017 NFL season, the Philadelphia Eagles have now officially shifted gears toward the offseason. Aside from a few pending decisions on key players, the Eagles will approach free agency with the future of quarterback Carson Wentz in mind.
Quarterbacks like Kirk Cousins, Matt Ryan, and Aaron Rodgers are set to raise a new bar in terms of contracts for QBs this offseason. As a result, executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman indicates Philadelphia will need to start preparing now if they are going to be able to offer Wentz top-tier money, according to ESPN's Tim McManus:

Wentz had been in the midst of an MVP-caliber season in 2017 prior to the devastating knee injury which saw him miss their playoff run. Although the Eagles still managed to rally behind backup quarterback Nick Foles en route to a championship, there is no doubt that Wentz is their franchise player moving forward. That said, Roseman is looking to get more bang for his buck from younger players rather than the lucrative veterans currently on the roster.
Aside from the prodigious deal that Cousins is about to receive, there are rumors that Rodgers' contract may even surpass it. Furthermore, the salary cap increase will undoubtedly have agents giddy about negotiations moving forward.
