The 2020 offseason saw both San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce sign generous contract extensions. Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz could be next in line to get his bag.
The team and the 29-year old player recently continued contract talks in hopes of sealing an extension before the start of the upcoming season.
NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport disclosed more details about Ertz's contract situation on Twitter:
Speaking of extensions: The #Eagles reengaged on contract talks with TE Zach Ertz, which makes sense after 2 stars at the position got paid. Ertz’s stats put him on a historic pace, with more yards (5,743 vs 5,647) and catches (525 vs 468) than HOFer Tony Gonzalez thru 7 seasons.

Zach Ertz has two years left on his current deal dating back to the 2016 season when the Eagles signed him to a five-year, $42.5 million contract extension. The former Stanford Cardinal lived up to the fresh contract that was given to him as he produced great numbers for the team in recent years.
In the 2017 season, he hoisted the Super Bowl LII trophy with the team over the New England Patriots after scoring the game-winning touchdown for the Eagles.
He set an NFL record for tight ends with 116 receptions during the 2018 season, along with 1,163 receiving yards and 8 scored touchdowns as a full-fledged starter for the team. He also bagged three straight Pro Bowl appearances from 2017 to 2019. Last season, Ertz tallied a total of 88 receptions for 916 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns in 15 games played for the Eagles.
The eight-year veteran was able to put himself in a favorable position as he managed to remain significantly healthy in recent seasons. He also put up impressive numbers that contributed to the Eagles' winning ways over the years.
He is looking to continue the trend for the team once he lands the extension that he desires.
