The Philadelphia Eagles kept their playoff hopes alive with a huge 30-23 road win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night that put them just outside the final wildcard spot. It was an encouraging performance that saw running back Wendell Smallwood play a major factor in the offense as he scored a pair of touchdowns while rushing for 48 yards on 10 attempts in the contest.

Following the game, Smallwood voiced uncertainty about what his role is on a week-to-week basis, according to Zack Rosenblatt of NJ.com.

“It’s hard,” Smallwood said on Sunday following the 30-23 win over the Los Angeles Rams at the Coliseum in Los Angeles, Calif. “It’s a tough battle. We’re competitors, we all want to be on the field. Every play if we could. Thats just part of the game: It’s not always going to be your turn.

“But,” he added, “when it is, you gotta go out there and perform as good as the next guy or you won’t last.

Smallwood has seen his role in the offense fluctuate throughout the year as he has struggled to find any consistency while dealing with injuries along the way this season. He has tallied up 308 rushing yards on 74 attempts and three touchdowns while hauling in 20 catches for 182 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The Eagles have continued to go with a running back by committee approach throughout the year, which has been even more so the case since Jay Ajayi went down with a season-ending torn ACL. Rookie Josh Adams has emerged as a promising talent, but his production has dipped in the last two weeks and now he's dealing with a back injury that forced him to exit Sunday's game early.

Given how the Eagles have worked the last couple of weeks with feeding the hot hand, Smallwood may continue to get that type of work moving forward in the final two games of the regular season.
