The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the market for a quarterback for the first time in 18 years. The retirement of longtime quarterback Ben Roethlisberger left a crater at the QB position for the Steelers, who only have the likes of Dwayne Haskins and Mason Rudolph as the heirs to Roethlisberger. However, all is not lost for Steelers fans, as the franchise still has one of the more talented rosters in football ahead of the 2022 NFL offseason. That leaves the Steelers with a big QB decision to make in the NFL offseason. Pittsburgh can either opt to go with an in-house option like Rudolph or Haskins, draft a new youngster, or make a big splash via trade or free agency. Here are three reasons why the Steelers must make a big QB splash in the 2022 NFL offseason.

3 Reasons Why Steelers Must Make QB Splash In NFL Offseason

3. The Steelers have a head coach with Super Bowl-winning experience

The Steelers have a distinct edge over the other QB-needy teams this NFL offseason. Unlike teams such as the Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints, the Steelers have a head coach who has won the Super Bowl before: Mike Tomlin. The presence of Tomlin makes the Steelers one of the more attractive destinations for a QB. Under Tomlin, Pittsburgh has amazingly never had a losing season. For a quarterback such as Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson, who may be looking for a win-first landing spot, the Steelers would make a ton of sense, thanks in part to Tomlin.

2. The Steelers defense is built to win

The Steelers defense, led by Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt, is built to win a title. That's certainly something for any big-name QBs to consider when searching for a new home in the 2022 NFL offseason. The numbers weren't too great for Pittsburgh this year, but this is a defense that finished third overall in points allowed per game and total defense just a season ago. Not only that, but the Steelers have one of the best pass rushes in the NFL, which, if the Los Angeles Rams' Super Bowl win was any indication, is a key component for a championship-level defense. The Steelers' defense certainly makes them an attractive landing spot for a top QB in the 2022 NFL offseason.

1. The Steelers are one elite QB away from having a top offense

How could this possibly be? The Steelers were one of the most lackluster offenses in the NFL under Roethlisberger and offensive coordinator Matt Canada, scoring just over 20 points per game. Pittsburgh could also lose one of their best receivers, JuJu Smith-Schuster, to free agency. However, Pittsburgh still has one of the better young backs in the league in Najee Harris along with a rising star at receiver in Diontae Johnson. Chase Claypool also has a ton of potential, as does tight end Pat Freiermuth. Realistically, the Steelers, who have over $31 million in cap space this NFL offseason, can field one of the league's best offenses next season if they spend to improve the offensive line and make a splash at QB. The opportunity for a Super Bowl is there for the taking.
