Over the past couple of months, a multitude of notable wide receivers have signed off on multiyear contract extension deals, including Miami Dolphins wideout Tyreek Hill. The time may soon come when Pittsburgh Steelers wideout Chase Claypool will also earn his first hefty payday in the NFL.

As it stands, Claypool has two more years remaining on his rookie contract. For one, he is set to receive a base salary of $1.2 million for the 2022 season.

While Claypool has taken notice of the multiple wideouts who have signed stout extensions as of late, he simply has his focus centered on his family and what is set to be his third campaign in Pittsburgh.

“I think in my mind, if anything, is always thinking about taking care of my family and the second contract will help me do that,” Claypool said at Steelers' OTAs. “But I never look at ‘Oh, this is what I need. I need to do this to get to this.’ I try to stay in the moment and not get too distracted by things like that.”

The time will also come when first-round picks from the 2020 NFL Draft will put pen to paper on new deals. From there, a domino effect could then follow suit where talents like Claypool, a second-round pick in the aforementioned draft, go on to also sign notable second contracts.

It sure will be noteworthy to see how the Steelers front office plans to deal with Claypool’s long-term future in Pittsburgh. Now-former Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert came to terms with Antonio Brown on a blockbuster extension agreement, but he opted against doing so with wideouts such as Mike Wallace.
