The Pittsburgh Steelers got a big comeback win over the New York Jets in Week 1 of the NFL season. That victory though came with a price. Some Pittsburgh players got banged up including defensive back DeShon Elliott. Elliott is missing a couple of weeks due to a MCL sprain, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
The injury is not considered serious, so that is some good news.
“The goal is to be back for Week 4 vs the Vikings in Ireland. In the meantime, Pittsburgh has signed Jabrill Peppers,” Schultz posted to X, formerly Twitter.
Elliott posted six tackles for the Steelers against the Jets, including five solo stops. Pittsburgh won 34-32 over New York, to start the year at 1-0.
Pittsburgh will use Peppers in the next few games, to help shore up the secondary. Pittsburgh plays the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2 of the NFL season.
Steelers hope to keep winning games
The Steelers have a lot of new faces on the team this season. That includes veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who threw four touchdown passes against the Jets. Two of them came in the fourth quarter, with Pittsburgh trailing and looking close to dead in the water. A 60-yard field goal with a minute left sealed the win for Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is expecting big things this season from Coach Mike Tomlin and the team. Tomlin is under fire from Steelers fans, for not winning more games including playoff games. It has been close to a decade since Pittsburgh won in the postseason. If he isn't able to do that this year, Tomlin's days coaching the team may be numbered.
Elliott has played in Pittsburgh since the 2024 campaign. He played previously for the Baltimore Ravens, Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins. He finished this last season in Pittsburgh with 108 total tackles. That was a career-high for the safety in that category.
Steelers fans hope that Elliott is able to return to the field soon.
