The Pittsburgh Steelers added a major piece to their aerial attack this offseason, bringing in tight end Eric Ebron on a two-year deal in free agency.

The Steelers did not exactly get much production from their tight ends this past year, so general manager Kevin Colbert is looking forward to what Ebron is going to bring to the table in 2020:

“There’s definitely athleticism, there’s red zone production, there’s run after the catch,” Colbert said of Ebron, according to Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com. “He’s really a premier kind of receiving tight end for this league when he’s healthy.”

Ebron spent his last couple of seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. His 2019 campaign was cut short due to ankle issues that required surgery, but in the 11 games he was on the field, Ebron logged 31 catches for 375 yards and three touchdowns.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of North Carolina, was originally selected by the Detroit Lions with the 10th overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft.

He played in 13 games during his rookie year, finishing with 25 grabs for 248 yards and a score. The following season, Ebron's role within the Lions' offense increased, as he snared 47 balls for 537 yards while reaching the end zone five times.

Ebron then continued to improve in 2016, catching 61 passes for 711 yards and a touchdown. He spent one more year in Detroit, registering 53 catches for 574 yards and four scores before signing with the Colts.

The Newark, N.J. native had his best season to date in 2018, hauling in 66 receptions for 750 yards while reaching the end zone 13 times.
