The Pittsburgh Steelers may have lost a handful of superstar talent during the offseason, but that doesn’t necessarily hurt their chances a ton in the coming season. As far as some players – including running back James Conner – think, the Steelers still have a very great chance at becoming Super Bowl Champions when the season is all said and done.
“Not guaranteeing nothing but I think we have a great chance of going all the way,” Conner said (via Pro Football Talk). “That’s what we play for, that’s why we show up every day, that’s the ultimate goal, is to get a ring. I know that’s a lot of people don’t think that we can do it, with the pieces that we lost, and just counting us out. We don’t mind it, though. We know that they’re counting us out, but that’s why I said we’re going to shock them because I don’t think they expect us to do what we’re about to do this year.”
On paper, the Steelers look to have taken a step back. With Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown both no longer on the roster, a sizable hole in terms of offensive contribution opened up.
However, with players like Conner and JuJu Smith-Schuster ready to step up, the Steelers could be looking at another postseason run sooner rather than later.
After missing the playoffs last season, the Steelers will be heading into the 2019 NFL season with some strong competition in their division.
The Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens have both retooled and look ready to make a push for the postseason, and the Steelers will have a very rough road to contention.
Despite this, Conner seems to think the Steelers have a shot, which shows just how confident they are.
