Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster has missed the last four games due to a pesky knee injury, and his status for his team's Week 16 matchup with the New York Jets on Sunday is up in the air.

Smith-Schuster was expected to return last weekend against the Buffalo Bills and was a full participant in last Wednesday's practice, but he left practice early on Thursday after re-aggravating the knee issue and didn't practice on Friday at all.

After the setback, Smith-Schuster knows he has to be careful going forward, even if he wants to get back on the field:

“My mind is telling me I want to go out there,” said Smith-Schuster, according to Joe Rutter of The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “My body is telling me I want to go out there, but I don’t want to go out there and mess it up to the point where I’m out for a whole another year because of my knee. I’m taking it slow and playing the game smart.”

The 23-year-old did not say if he expects to practice on Wednesday.

It has been a rather disappointing season overall for Smith-Schuster, as he has logged just 38 catches for 524 yards and three touchdowns in the 10 games he has played.

This comes after a spectacular 2018 campaign in which he hauled in 111 receptions for 1,426 yards and seven scores en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

The Steelers have been managing just fine without Smith-Schuster, as they had won three straight before losing to the Bills in Week 15, but with Pittsburgh fighting for a playoff spot, there is no doubt that it needs its best wide out back on the gridiron.
