The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Mason Rudolph in the third round of the 2018 draft, and at that point, many believed he was the future quarterback of the team. There is still a chance that could be, but it won't be anytime soon, and that is something Rudolph is okay with.

Ben Roethlisberger signed an extension through the 2021 season this offseason which is also the same year that Rudolph's contract expires.

Rudolph is currently doing everything in his power to get ready to be the backup and be prepared if his name is ever called upon.

“That’s what it is,” Rudolph said, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “It’s football. You know you’re one play away sometimes and you got to be ready to go and prepare like you’re the starter. That’s what I’ve always done since I stepped into a high school or college program. You respect the guys in front of you. We have a Hall of Fame quarterback in Mr. Roethlisberger. I just prepare my butt off. I’m just 100 times more comfortable.”

Rudolph is preparing like a backup but to have that title, he still has some work to do during OTAs and training camp. Josh Dobbs is also on the roster, and the two will be battling to try and back up Big Ben.

Rudolph was a standout with the Oklahoma State Cowboys throwing for 4904 yards and 37 touchdowns. He is still looking for his first game with the Steelers, but there are still high hopes he can be a solid NFL quarterback.
