As of this writing, Landry Jones is still part of the Pittsburgh Steelers, but head coach Mike Tomlin’s view of the quarterback depth of the team is something that could make Jones feel a little bit insecure about his chances of making the squad’s final 53-man roster.

When asked about the how many spots Pittsburgh will allot for the quarterbacks, Tomlin only had a vague answer, per Aditi Kinkhabwala of the NFL Network.

“We'll see where the road ends.”

Landry has played for the Steelers in each of his first five seasons in the NFL, but his status as Ben Roethlisberger’s main backup is being threatened by the pair of younger assets in second-year quarterback Joshua Dobbs and former Oklahoma State Cowboys star Mason Rudolph, who was selected in the third round by the Steelers in this year’s NFL Draft.

Dobbs and Rudolph both fared well in last week’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Dobbs went 9-of-13 for 91 passing yards with a touchdown and interception, while Rudolph completed seven of 12 passes for 101 yards. Jones, meanwhile, connected on all his four pass attempts for 83 yards.

Landry Jones, however, should still feel good about his chances of making the final cut, as Roethlisberger has expressed his support for the 29-year-old quarterback while speaking in front of reporters recently (h/t Matthew Marczi of Steelers Depot).

“He’s a guy that, obviously, can play. He can come in and get you out of a game”, Roethlisberger said of his backup yesterday after practice during his final media availability session of training camp. “He can start a game. He’s someone that I trust”.

Mike Tomlin will get another look at his backup quarterbacks this Thursday, as the Steelers take on the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.
