The Pittsburgh Steelers took former Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph in the third round of this year's NFL Draft. The franchise expects him to be the eventual replacement for Pro Bowler Ben Roethlisberger down the line.
Since his arrival, the Steelers have continued to speak quite highly of Rudolph, believing he can translate his college success to the pro game. Now, other quarterbacks around the league are taking notice.
During an interview with in the QB2QB show for ESPN, Seattle Seahawks star quarterback Russell Wilson offered some praise for the 22-year-old. (h/t Bryan Deardo of 247 Sports)
“I’ve got a nickname for you: Mr. Consistent,” Wilson told Rudolph. “Thirty-eight straight starts (at Oklahoma State), that’s pretty impressive. Not many people can do that. One of the things I love about you is your confidence and your poise and your leadership.”
Rudolph was regarded as one of the better quarterbacks in this year's draft behind his physical attributes that could help him excel at next level, as he is 6-foot-5 with a strong and accurate arm. The Steelers are hoping to help shape him into a quarterback that could be the long-term solution under center once Roethlisberger decides to step away.
These next couple of years are an ideal opportunity for him to learn behind one of the league's top quarterbacks while he gets further acclimated to the next level. There is also no rush for him to prove that he can step in right away, as the team will look to move him along at his own pace.
With players like Wilson recognizing the type of talent that he possesses entering the league, Rudolph could have a promising future ahead of him in Pittsburgh as the future at the position.
