This season was a very disappointing one for the Pittsburgh Steelers. They ended the season at 9-6-1 and finished 2nd in the AFC North Division.

Even though the record doesn't seem very bad, the Steelers failed to make the playoffs and ended the season with lots of controversies. It seemed as if Ben Roethlisberger had something to say about his entire team and their performance. The culture under head coach Mike Tomlin is in shambles.

A continuation of those problems happened this Friday when Steelers' beat reporter Mike Priusta released some info that some of the players made him privy to before the start of 2018 regular season.

On Friday evening, Prisuta shared what Steelers several players told him with regard to Porter trying to disrupt locker room chemistry during the 2018 season.

Prisuta wrote:

“Had a couple offensive players share complaints about Joey Porter late in the season, that he was trying to pit the defense against the offense in a divisive manner. The approach wasn’t understood or appreciated. This looks, smells like a move to address culture, chemistry.”

Tomlin ended up not retaining Porter any further this past Friday:

“I have informed outside linebackers coach Joey Porter that we will not renew his contract. These are difficult decisions when it comes to someone like Joey who has meant a lot to this organization as both a player and coach. I want to thank Joey for his coaching efforts over the past five years on our defensive staff. We wish him the best in his future coaching career.”

Porter, defensive assistant and outside linebackers coach, was a former member of the Steelers as a player himself. He had been a part of the organization as a coach since 2014.

As a player, he was a three-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro selection during his time with the Steelers. Porter had a total 60.0 sacks along with 17 forced fumbles, 10 interceptions and eight fumble recoveries during his time in the early 2000s with the Steelers.
