The Baltimore Ravens are hitting their groove, as evidenced by a three-game win streak that includes a dominant 44-20 win at home against the Detroit Lions on Sunday. The win, however, also came at the expense of a big loss to their roster with cornerback Jimmy Smith now out for the season after sustaining a torn Achilles in the contest.

Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:

Smith has been dealing with a sore Achilles for the most part of this season, but it finally gave out on him on Sunday, as he went down in the second quarter and did not return.

This development is a big blow to the Baltimore defense, as Smith has been an integral part of the team's sturdy defense that is playing a big role in keeping the team afloat.

The Ravens allow the third least passing yards to opponents, surrendering just 198.6 per game. Their 20 interceptions are the most in the league so far this year with Smith contributing three. Smith, who was drafted by Baltimore in the first round back in 2011, also has 26 total tackles this season.

With Smith out, the Ravens will ask rookie Marlon Humphrey to step up. Humphrey has 16 tackles an interception to date in his first year in the pros.
