The Washington Redskins are expected to keep defensive coordinator Greg Manusky for at least another year, according to a new report.

According to the Washington Post, Manusky's future with the team was in limbo for a while. There was some question, in fact, as to whether he would stay on with the team, especially since the team was looking at other defensive coordinators for a while.

Gregg Williams, Todd Bowles, and Steve Wilks were all rumored to be in contention for the defensive coordinator position, after being fired as head coaches from their respective teams.

The way the Washington Redskins handled the Greg Manusky situation was nothing if not unusual because the usual course of events suggests that a position has to be vacant before a head coach or other members of the hierarchy consider filling it.

But, head coach Jay Gruden was merely looking for “different perspectives” from other defensive coordinators.

Gruden ultimately decided to keep Manusky on for a third season because, according to the report, he would like to keep “continuity” with a defense that “showed promise” last season.

This is an interesting turn of events, because in 2017, several Redskins players said that they “struggled” to adjust to Greg Manusky as the defensive coordinator, even though he was only in his first year in the position. However, they seem to have adjusted just fine in 2018, as players Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen and Matt Ioannidis have really gained momentum in the defense strategy.

In addition to keeping Manusky, the Redskins are also looking to re-sign defensive line coach Jim Tomsula.
