Prior to the San Francisco 49ers selecting Trey Lance in the 2021 NFL Draft, Jimmy Garoppolo was well informed about the team's intentions to select a quarterback.

How do we know this? Tickle me glad you asked. When appearing on a Fox Sports show, John Lynch literally said as much.

“I think Jimmy’s got a really good trust in myself and Kyle,” 49ers front office guru Lynch said in an interview with Colin Cowherd, via David Bonilla of 49ersWebZone.com. “I think you earn that, and I think from day one, we’ve been very upfront with Jimmy. When I went to Jimmy, I told him the truth. Like, ‘Look, we have made a decision that we’re going to pursue a quarterback this offseason. You know, Jimmy, when you’ve played, you’ve been tremendous, and the record speaks to that. We feel like there’s room for growth. The biggest thing has been it’s hard to keep you on the field.’

“That’s not an easy thing to tell a player but Jimmy took it tremendously,” the 49ers front office leader said.

The good news for handsome Jimmy Garoppolo? Trey Lance, while an incredibly intriguing player and one who seems to have insane upside, is more raw than a steak going uncooked. He has so few snaps under his belt, at any level, it's unlikely he's a threat to be the quarterback of the 49ers anytime soon.

All that being said, it'll be interesting to see the QB dynamic in San Francisco in the upcoming season. If Jimmy Garoppolo stumbles out of the gate early, especially if it is horrific fashion, many fans will certainly be calling on the 49ers to make a switch to Trey Lance.
