Jimmy Garoppolo has received plenty of criticism ever since the San Francisco 49ers lost in the Super Bowl, but his teammates continue to defend him. Even Trent Williams, who hasn't been with the 49ers for two months, is expressing his support for Garoppolo.

“From being in my position, not having a lot of success in the league, having a good quarterback and having a kind of musical chairs back there, I know the importance of it,” Williams told Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, via NBCSportsWashington.com. “So I’m extremely happy just to be part of an offense that really don’t need me to win. I [just] add to it.”

Prior to being traded to San Francisco this offseason, Williams spent 10 seasons with the Washington Redskins. While he was with the Redskins, Williams was selected to the Pro Bowl seven times.

However, Washington didn't have much consistency at the quarterback position during his time there. Nor did the Redskins have much success in making the postseason while Williams was in the nation's capital. Altogether, in the nine seasons that he played in, Washington made the playoffs just two times.

Regardless of what everyone thinks of Garoppolo, he helped lead San Francisco to the Super Bowl last season. In his first full season as a starter, Garoppolo finished with 3,978 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.

As good as Williams was for the Redskins, he's had a shortage of consistency and success at the quarterback position. Even though the jury is still out on Garoppolo, Williams hopes that he can experience some postseason success in his new uniform.
