The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Seattle Seahawks by a score of 26-23 in overtime on Sunday, snapping a nine-game losing skid against their NFC West division rivals.

Afterward, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was thrilled to end the hex, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com:

“It means a ton,” Shanahan said. “Not all of us have been here since 2013, but a lot of us were here last year. We were all definitely here two weeks ago. It's a division rival. We're also very sick about the way we lost two weeks ago.”

The Seahawks routed the 49ers by a score of 43-16 on Dec. 2.

“I was really proud of the guys just not saying anything. I just knew it meant a lot to our guys. Especially after two weeks and to the fans and everything since 2013. I hated having to answer those questions all week. I definitely didn't want to go a whole ‘nother year doing it. This was our last opportunity to end that and I'm glad we don't have to hear that again.”

With the win, the 49ers improved to 4-10 on the year and also prevented Seattle from clinching the NFC West title.

Now, the Seahawks will have to try and clinch at home against the Kansas City Chiefs next weekend, and if that doesn't work out, they'll get one more shot at home against the Arizona Cardinals in the final game of the regular season on Dec. 30.

The 49ers will play host to the Chicago Bears next Sunday before finishing out their season against the Los Angeles Rams.
