There was some uncertainty surrounding Raheem Mostert and his future with the San Francisco 49ers after he requested a trade this offseason. But he always felt confident that he and the 49ers could work something out like they ultimately did. While speaking to the media on Wednesday, Mostert detailed the ‘blessing' of staying in San Francisco despite his trade request.
“It was long, and (there were) difficulties,” Mostert said, via NBC Sports Bay Area. “But in the end, we were able to sit down and have communication, and it's a blessing to be here. It's one of those things where I knew it was going to be right regardless of how it played out. I knew that, in the end, it was going to be all right, and I was still going to be a Niner no matter what.”
Last season, Mostert led the 49ers in rushing, scampering for 772 yards and eight touchdowns. However, before the 2019 season, Mostert was viewed as just a depth option for San Francisco's offense. San Francisco's leading rusher from last season pinpointed the 49ers' family-like atmosphere as a reason why he returned to the team.
“This is a family, and we all understand that,” Mostert said. “As you can see, what we've been through these past three, four years with the organization, going 6-10, then the following year, 4-12, and then the Super Bowl run last year, it just tells you that this is a family-based organization.
“We eventually got it fixed, and like I said, it's a blessing, and I'm glad to be here.”
Entering the 2020 season, Raheem Mostert is projected to be the No. 1 running back for the 49ers. Even though his future with San Francisco was once clouded, Mostert is excited to return to the reigning NFC champions.
