The league has had to take unprecedented action ahead of the 2020 NFL season in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Fortunately, the San Francisco 49ers are doing what they can to maintain a sense of normalcy.
The 49ers were able to avoid too much significant turnover to their roster this offseason. Guard Laken Tomlinson admits having such continuity is going to help pay huge dividends ahead of the 2020 campaign, via Keiana Martin of the team's official website:
“It's really important to have that continuity right now in these times because having everything the same for the veteran guys – the guys that have been part of the offense, defense, the special teams last year, all those installs are going to be the same or mostly the same,” guard Laken Tomlinson said. ”Coaches can really focus on coaching the rookies coming in and making sure they're on the same page. The veterans can help with the learning process in that sense. Just having the majority of the team coming back, I think is going to be a winning edge for this team in this phase.”
Linebacker Fred Warner doubled down on the notion that having so much familiarity within the group will be an advantage.

Us having a lot of the same people in the building this year will be good for us, having that chemistry and being familiar with one another.”
It is easy to see why San Francisco is feeling confident. They enjoyed quite the resurgence last year by dominating the regular season en route to a trip to Super Bowl LIV. Although they may have come up short against the Kansas City Chiefs, they are returning the bulk of their starters to try and finish the job this time around.
There are plenty of teams around the league that have ushered in some significant changes to both their roster and coaching staff. Unfortunately, the restrictions currently in place have largely prevented them from getting better acquainted ahead of offseason workouts.
The league as a whole is still navigating through uncharted waters for the time being. However, the 49ers are confident that they will be able to pick up right where they left off.
