The San Francisco 49ers suffered a blow to their offensive line depth on Saturday. Swing tackle Shon Coleman went down four snaps into a preseason game versus the Dallas Cowboys. Coleman was carted off the field and into the locker room with an air cast on his right ankle. Indications point to him missing an extended period of time.

San Francisco trotted out career journeyman Willie Beavers to fill in for Coleman.
A third-round pick in 2016 by the Cleveland Browns, the 49ers traded for Coleman shortly before the start of the 2018 season for a seventh-round selection. Though he didn't play any game for the 49ers in 2018, he started their preseason opener at left tackle with incumbent starter Joe Staley resting.
Coming into the game, Coleman appeared poised to be the top swing tackle on a shallow 49ers offensive tackle group.
Article Continues BelowSixth-round pick Daniel Skule will likely receive an uptick in snaps after Coleman's injury. Skule-Coleman was a training camp battle for the swing tackle role.
The 49ers dealt with unfriendly injury luck last season. By the midway point of 2018, their starting backfield of Jimmy Garappolo (quarterback) and Jerick McKinnon (running back) were on injured reserve with torn ACLs. In 2019 training camp and preseason, their luck hasn't changed.
No. 2 overall pick Nick Bosa suffered a high ankle sprain shortly into training camp; it'll sideline him for the entirety of the preseason. Freshly signed cornerback Jason Verrett also went down with a high ankle sprain (albeit, less minor) for the 49ers.
Coleman's injury is just another chapter of an unlucky start to the offseason. Hopefully, for the players' and the team's sake, that will change soon.
